Beachside Residents Should Avoid Whiting Waterway and Limit Non-Essential Water Uses Due to Sewer Main Break

INDIAN HARBOUR BEACH, Fla. – Due to yesterday’s sewer main break near the intersection of South Patrick Drive and Banana River Drive, nearby residents are being advised to avoid contact with the water in the Whiting Waterway.

Brevard County Utility Services crews worked throughout the night, and are continuing today, to repair the pipeline.

Because of the break, sewage entered the waterway between Eleuthera Drive and Banana River Drive.

Residents in the area are receiving telephone notifications of this advisory.

The Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the Florida Department of Health have been notified, and warning signs are being posted in the area.

Water samples are being collected and tested daily to determine when bacteria counts return to normal levels.

Beachside residents between the Pineda Causeway and Eau Gallie Boulevard are being asked to continue to limit non-essential water usage, such as laundry, as well.

For more information, please call the Utility Services Department at (321) 633-2091.
